How Fit Are You?
The computation for the BMI is the same both for male and female.
A sample computation:
Joe is 5 ft. 10 inches tall and weighs 160 lbs.
To determine Joe’s BMI:
- Divide the height (in inches) by 39.36 to determine your height in meters. In this case,
70 inches/39.36=1.78 meters
- Divide the weight (in pounds) by 2.2 to determine the weight in kilograms. In this case,
160 lbs/2.2=72.73 kg.
- Square the height (in meters)
1.78 x1.78=3.16
- Divide the weight (in kilograms)
By the squared height
72.73/3.16=22.99
The result 22.99 is Joe’s BMI. Joe’s BMI is classified as normal.
